December 19, 2019. It was a Thursday, right before COVID got bad.

I specifically remember driving home and talking to my best friend over the phone who convinced me to call my doctor as I was driving home to find out about the biopsy results as I knew I was supposed to hear back from them no later than Friday - December 20, 2019.

"OHHHHH Ms Flores" the receptionist said to me when I asked if I could speak to the nurse practitioner or doctor. She replied "I just placed your results on the nurses desk, you should be hearing from them by the end of the day".

I was so nervous, and something told be the news wasn't good. Maybe it was the tone in her voice. But I just had this feeling...

It was the longest drive home. I was terrified and somewhat in disbelief.

"Cancer won't happen to me" or so I thought...

The call came around 4:50 pm:

"Hi Ms. Flores, this is the nurse practicioner calling you from the doctor's office"

My shaky voice, "Yes, I have been expecting your call"

"Well I wish that my call was not going to be of this nature and that I had some good news to report, however your biopsy results came back and it shows you tested positive this time for cancer"

Just. Like. That. My whole world turned upside down.

I don't think I heard another word on that call. I put my phone on speaker and fell to the ground. My friend just started writing down the information she was giving me. I couldn't even cry, I think I just went numb.

I was 34 years young.
